If you have ever tried to purchase a domain name then you will understand that it is quite a simple process. Several entrepreneurs, including Adam Majewski, have purchased several domain names that contain references to different MGM properties and MGM are none too happy about it.
MGM Resorts International filed a lawsuit against several of these people stating that they were “cyber-squatters” and the Texan Adam Majewski is fighting back against the corporate giants. As one of the entrepreneurs who own one of these domain names, excaliburpoker.com, Majewski has filed a motion for dismissal stating that his site does not infringe upon the MGM Resorts trademark of the term “Excalibur”. Majewski is basing his argument on the fact that the name Excalibur is the name of the legendary sword recited in the King Arthur legend. In his motion Majewski cites hundreds of different company names around the world that all use the name Excalibur.
Just recently, the Nevada State Gaming Control Board began to accept applications for online poker licenses. The work was being carried out despite online gaming still not being legalised in the United States, so you couldn’t play free poker online. The brick and mortar casinos are all preparing themselves to enter the market should it be one day legalised and this is why their brand names of their resorts are very important.
MGM Resorts believe that having domain names in existence such as excaliburpoker.com could become confusing for players not knowing whether it’s something related to the famous legend or one of the top poker sites. It is believed four people and two separate companies have had lawsuits filed against them by MGM.
